Applications Now Open for the New BlueOcean Program

Published: %s 05.11.2026

The Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) has launched a call for applications for the new BlueOcean program.

The main goal of the initiative is to verify and implement concepts that go beyond routine progress. We are looking for visionary researchers whose bold ideas have the potential to lead to groundbreaking discoveries of key importance for the advancement of science and society.

Who Is the Program For?

The BlueOcean program is aimed at ambitious project leaders (Principal Investigators) who address highly innovative issues with high-impact potential, pushing beyond the incremental development of already verified theories.

Grant applications may be submitted by researchers employed at Polish research organizations who are ready to assume the role of Principal Investigator (PI). Requirements regarding applicants' scientific track records and detailed formal criteria are available in the dedicated BlueOcean program tab.

Budget and Funding Scope

Under the BlueOcean program, selected projects may receive funding of up to PLN 350,000 for an execution period of up to 18 months. Funds are awarded through an open competition with no thematic restrictions—representatives of all scientific disciplines are invited to apply.

Funding is dedicated to projects with high innovative potential that propose unconventional approaches to significant research problems and substantially exceed the current state of knowledge.

Two-Stage Selection and Evaluation Process

The call procedure is divided into two clear stages:

Stage I – Online Project Application Submission Applications are accepted exclusively via the FNP online application system. The application form includes the applicant's details, confirmation of scientific achievements, a concise description of the research idea (up to 1,500 words—including the hypothesis, objective, and rationale for innovation), as well as supporting documents: a narrative CV, a timeline with key milestones, and an estimated budget. Following a formal eligibility check, applications undergo scientific evaluation by the Program Committee and external peer reviewers. Criteria evaluated include scientific rigor, originality of concept, potential for breakthrough impact, and the anticipated significance of the discovery.

Stage II – Interview The highest-scoring applicants will be invited to an interview with the Program Committee. At this stage, scientific excellence, depth of reasoning, PI competencies, and the coherence and feasibility of the proposed research plan and budget will be assessed.

Dare to Explore the Unknown

The BlueOcean program was created for individuals who wish to explore scientific frontiers where outcomes may be uncertain, but the potential impact is extraordinary. If you have a vision that could change the way we understand the world, we encourage you to apply and begin a journey into uncharted territory.
